May 6 Campaign Update

1. Poll Shows Strong Dem Support for Gore

A new poll is out in New Hampshire that shows Al Gore maintaining strong support among Democratic voters. The University of New Hampshire/CNN/WMUR poll released on May 4 has Al Gore leading Bill Bradley 68%-23%. The poll also shows that 81% of New Hampshire Democrats have a favorable opinion of Al Gore compared to only 9% unfavorable.

2. Dem Support Strong in California

Antonio Villaraigosa, Speaker of the California State Assembly, yesterday (5/5) announced that 46 of the 47 California Assembly Democrats are endorsing Al Gore for President in 2000. Villaraigosa said in a letter to Gore, "Mr. Vice President, we need the kind of leadership you have provided America and California as we enter the 21st Century. Clearly no other candidate has your experience nor your record of achievements. That is why we are proud to endorse your candidacy for President of the United States."

3. Labor Support Strong Nationwide

AFSCME (The Association of Federal, State, County, and Municipal Employees) affiliates across the country are announcing their support for Al Gore. The following AFSCME chapters recently announced their endorsement of Gore for President in 2000: Pennsylvania Council 13, New York Council 37, and the Alaska State Employees Association.

Washington. DC – On Wednesday, May 5, Antonio Villaraigosa, Speaker of the California State Assembly, announced that 45 of the 47 Democratic members of the Assembly are endorsing the candidacy of Al Gore for President of the United States.
