3. Tipper Honored in Texas

Mrs. Gore had a wonderful trip to Texas earlier this week. In addition to attending several Gore 2000 receptions, she also toured Lifeworks, an Austin based program that offers services to youth and families. She was also presented with a special legislative commendation on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives. In part, the resolution read:

"Whereas, few Americans are as widely recognized for their advocacy on behalf children and families as is our nation's Second Lady, and it is truly a great pleasure to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be it resolved, that the House of Representatives of the 76th Texas Legislature hereby welcome Mary Elizabeth 'Tipper' Gore to the State Capitol and commend her for her exceptional efforts in helping America's families and children."

4. Gore Calls on House to Pass Gun Measures

Vice President Gore traveled to Capitol Hill on Wednesday and urged the House Republicans to quickly pass the gun measures that were passed by the Senate last week only after Gore cast the tie-breaking vote. The House leadership has been delaying action on the measures.

"It is because some within the Republican caucus are so responsive to the NRA. They're are hoping against hope that if they can slow walk this whole measure, then the American people will lose the sense of urgency that is now so obvious and so palpable," Gore said. "Well, they're wrong about that. The American people want to see action and they want it now."
