June 10, 1999 Campaign Update

Al Gore received the endorsements of 19 Former US Senators on June 8

"Al Gore served for eight years in the House, eight years in the Senate and six years as Vice President. No person is better prepared to be President of the United States. 1. Tipper and Hillary on the Campaign Trail

Tipper Gore and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton will travel through California this Saturday and Sunday (6/12-13). The visit will include a Gore 2000 reception in Los Angeles. Sharon Davis, wife of California Governor Gray Davis, is serving as Honorary Chair for the event. For more information on the event, contact Terri New at (310) 575-GORE.

2. Former Senators Endorse Gore

This Tuesday (6-8), nineteen former United States Senators endorsed Al Gore in his bid to become President of the United States. Former Senators Howard Metzenbaum of Ohio and J. Bennett Johnston of Louisiana, flanked by former Senators from across the country, made the announcement at a press conference in Washington.

"The former Senators who worked alongside the Vice President when he was in the House and Senate came to Washington on their own for an event organized by former Senators Howard Metzenbaum of Ohio and Bennett Johnston of Louisiana and backed by the Gore campaign. ‘There is no person better trained to be president than Al Gore,’ Metzenbaum said. The former senators praised Gore as an effective and competent leader with the experience to be an effective president." (Associated Press 6-8-99)

3. Travel to Tennessee and Iowa will be Part of Gore Announcement

Join Al Gore in Tennessee on Wednesday (6-16) where he will formally announce his candidacy for President. The announcement will take place at 9:00 a.m. infront of Smith County Courthouse in Carthage, Tennessee. For ticket information, contact (615) 341-0230.

Al Gore will then travel to Iowa City on Wednesday afternoon (6-16) and speak to Iowans as part of his announcement swing. The public is invited to attend. For more information, contact Iowans for Gore at (319) 339-9900.

On June 17, Gore will visit Manchester, NH, and speak to the citizens of New Hampshire about issues of importance to American families. This event will be open to the public. For more information call (603) 622-7788.
